Psychologist

Ampara qualified with a master degree in clinical psychology in the Netherlands where she worked for a decade with a forensic population who experienced a wide range of mental health issues including addiction, depression, acute and chronic psychotic disorders, trauma and severe personality disorders. Alongside, Ampara worked as a trauma psychologist in a national crisis team for the ministry of Justice and the department of Child, Youth and Family Services in the Netherlands. Clients referred had experienced emotional and, often also, physical trauma/injuries. Furthermore, she worked as a crisis consultant for asylum seekers in detention centers, in the process of being deported. Her recent work in New Zealand, with the Department of Corrections, includes working with a wide range of violent and sexual offenders. She uses an eclectic range of therapeutic skills and tailors them to the client’s needs, preference, cultural background and personality. EMDR and Schema focused Therapy are her specialties.

Ampara is registered as a clinical psychologist with the New Zealand Board of Psychologists and resides in Auckland.
