Frances Williams

Psychologist

Frances has been working as a registered clinical psychologist for 11 years. The first eight years of her career were in very busy public health services which allowed her to gain a wide variety of skills and experience. She spent five of these years working in the UK which also exposed her to a wide range of cultures and learning opportunities. Most of her experience is with adults with mental health difficulties and/or health related issues. Frances has worked in a number of Community Mental Health Teams where people present with severe and enduring mental health problems. In the UK this often included people who had been through childhood trauma because they don’t have an ACC system. She has also worked with people with chronic pain, brain injuries and obesity, children, adolescents and older adults. Frances is empathetic and non-judgmental, and encourage feedback from her client as to what is helpful or not. She uses strategies drawn from a number of evidence based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).  The experience generally allows her to be flexible with her approach so that the clients can feel satisfied with the direction of the therapy and achieve the best outcomes.
