Psychologist

Tom, the founder and co-director of Pain Management and Rehabilitation Services, has over 20 years’ experience in working with different aspects of pain management. He is especially interested in issues arising from the permanent effects of injury, the use of biofeedback for optimising performance, reducing the impact of injury on functioning, stress management and the rehabilitation of head and muscle injury. Tom is the first person in New Zealand to have achieved international certification in the practice of biofeedback. He is currently training in neurofeedback, an approach which has many different applications including helping people who suffer from chronic headaches, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Tom specializes in working with anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and regularly does work for ACC Sensitive Claims, the NZ Police and the NZ Military Services in these areas. He has also had training in couples and relationship counselling and consults with surgeons performing bariatric surgery (for weight loss) for the purpose of providing psychological services for clients who have had weight loss surgery. Tom is a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society, The Pain Society, The New Zealand Society of Hypnosis and is a member of the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA).
